FAQS

Why do we start sponsoring students so young?

We want to meet the educational needs of as many children as we possibly can. Children are never too young to have a head start on their education or to begin being taught the Word of God.

How long am I expected to sponsor my sponsored child?

Our prayer is that you are able to sponsor your child throughout their high school years.

How can I communicate with my sponsored child?

Writing letters to your sponsored child is an important part of this program. By establishing communication you can get to know your student and be able to stand with him/her in prayer. You may write to your child as often as you would like.

Write your ID number and the child’s name and I.D. number on your letter

           ·         Sponsor: Fred Jones, ID# 90023001
           ·         Student: Lalramsan ID#P301-120806

With respect for your privacy, please do not include your address or phone number in the letters. All correspondence with your child needs to go through Bibles for the World. You may send photographs of yourself and your family- the children absolutely love having a picture of their sponsor!

If I want to send a gift to my child, what would be appropriate?

Due to high customs fees and the problem of postal theft, we cannot forward gift packages for your child.

You may include small gifts such as stickers, bookmarks, etc. Anything small and flat that will fit into a regular #10 envelope is acceptable. Unfortunately, if your gift is any larger, we will not be able to forward it to India.

We send a packet of letters to India several times a month. The India office then forwards them to the appropriate school, where the teachers distribute them to the students. Due to the slowness of the Indian postal system and the remoteness of some village schools, this process can sometimes be very slow and take a couple of months.

Can I send a monetary gift to my child?

Absolutely! You may do this by sending the money to BFTW. As always, include your name and IDnumber, and write: “Designated gift for [student’s name and I.D. #]

Designated gift funds are sent to India once a month. Your child will receive the equivalent in Indian   rupees. Due to the length of time it takes to transfer funds to Northeast India and then forward the money to the proper village school, these gifts take several months to reach your sponsored child.

Will I be the only sponsor for my particular child?

Our policy is to only assign one sponsor per child. If a child is also in need of Boarding Support, and the current sponsor is unable to cover the cost of both, then we will find another sponsor to take care of the boarding support.

Is it possible to visit my sponsored child?

Yes! We take trips to India once a year. For more information, click here. (link to J-1C)
